Labour Fair 2024 — Book your classroom presentation today!

We are excit­ed to announce that Labour Fair 2024 will be held from Feb­ru­ary 26 – March 1 next term!

Last year in March, URFA and URSU col­lab­o­rat­ed on our first-ever Labour Fair, which fea­tured guest pre­sen­ta­tions from orga­nized labour lead­ers in var­i­ous cours­es at the Uni­ver­si­ty of Regi­na. It served as an oppor­tu­ni­ty for stu­dents and fac­ul­ties to engage with labour orga­ni­za­tions — and also for stu­dents to under­stand the var­i­ous occu­pa­tion­al or job issues in the indus­try they are going to enter.

This year, we are plan­ning to expand this project to reach a larg­er por­tion of our cam­pus com­mu­ni­ty, which will serve to edu­cate stu­dents and strength­en stu­dent-labour sol­i­dar­i­ty!

How to Book Your Class­room Pre­sen­ta­tion

A diverse ros­ter of speak­ers will be avail­able to present in your class­room dur­ing Labour Fair week. We are offer­ing pre­sen­ta­tions that are 15 min­utes long, or up to one hour — depend­ing what works with your course sched­ule.

Our sug­gest­ed top­ics are:

  • Unions 101: Intro­duc­tion to Work­er’s Rights
  • Health & Safe­ty for Young Workers
  • Orga­nize! Tools for Work­place Organizing
  • Fem­i­nist Orga­niz­ing: Labour’s Con­tri­bu­tions to the Strug­gle for Equality

How­ev­er, we have many union experts avail­able to come speak, so if you would like to make a spe­cial request for a top­ic that’s spe­cif­ic to your course mate­r­i­al, we are hap­py to try to arrange it.

To request a pre­sen­ta­tion, please email advocacy@​ursu.​ca with the fol­low­ing details:

  • Your name
  • Your email & cell phone number
  • Your course title
  • Date and time of your class
  • Pre­ferred length of pre­sen­ta­tion (15 mins, or up to 1 hour)
  • What topic(s) you’d like the speak­er to cover

The dead­line to request your pre­sen­ta­tion is Jan­u­ary 10, 2024, how­ev­er we encour­age you to book as soon as pos­si­ble to ensure you get your pre­ferred time.

We are also hop­ing to host sev­er­al pub­lic events for staff and stu­dents through­out Labour Fair week, so please keep your eyes peeled for upcom­ing announce­ments.
