Labour Fair 2024 — Book your classroom presentation today!
We are excited to announce that Labour Fair 2024 will be held from February 26 – March 1 next term!
Last year in March, URFA and URSU collaborated on our first-ever Labour Fair, which featured guest presentations from organized labour leaders in various courses at the University of Regina. It served as an opportunity for students and faculties to engage with labour organizations — and also for students to understand the various occupational or job issues in the industry they are going to enter.
This year, we are planning to expand this project to reach a larger portion of our campus community, which will serve to educate students and strengthen student-labour solidarity!
How to Book Your Classroom Presentation
A diverse roster of speakers will be available to present in your classroom during Labour Fair week. We are offering presentations that are 15 minutes long, or up to one hour — depending what works with your course schedule.
Our suggested topics are:
- Unions 101: Introduction to Worker’s Rights
- Health & Safety for Young Workers
- Organize! Tools for Workplace Organizing
- Feminist Organizing: Labour’s Contributions to the Struggle for Equality
However, we have many union experts available to come speak, so if you would like to make a special request for a topic that’s specific to your course material, we are happy to try to arrange it.
To request a presentation, please email advocacy@ursu.ca with the following details:
- Your name
- Your email & cell phone number
- Your course title
- Date and time of your class
- Preferred length of presentation (15 mins, or up to 1 hour)
- What topic(s) you’d like the speaker to cover
The deadline to request your presentation is January 10, 2024, however we encourage you to book as soon as possible to ensure you get your preferred time.
We are also hoping to host several public events for staff and students throughout Labour Fair week, so please keep your eyes peeled for upcoming announcements.
If you have any questions, please email advocacy@ursu.ca.
