Student Bursaries

Each year the Uni­ver­si­ty of Regi­na Fac­ul­ty Asso­ci­a­tion awards three bur­saries to stu­dents — the Dr. Peter Hem­ing­way Bur­sary, the Faye Rafter Bur­sary, the Dr. Sarah Short­en Memo­r­i­al Bur­sary.

Uni­ver­si­ty of Regi­na Fac­ul­ty Asso­ci­a­tion Dr. Peter Hem­ing­way Bursary

This bur­sary is named to rec­og­nize the exem­plary con­tri­bu­tions of the late Dr. Peter Hem­ing­way to the cre­ation and effec­tive func­tion­ing of the Uni­ver­si­ty of Regi­na Fac­ul­ty Association. 

The bur­sary will be award­ed annu­al­ly to an under­grad­u­ate who has com­plet­ed at least 30 cred­it hours of course work in any fac­ul­ty at the Uni­ver­si­ty of Regi­na. The recip­i­ent must also be reg­is­tered in a min­i­mum of 12 cred­it hours in the fall semes­ter. The award is val­ued at $1,500, and will be made by the Schol­ar­ship Com­mit­tee on the basis of finan­cial need as well as aca­d­e­m­ic achievement.

The 2023 recip­i­ent of this award was Jen­na Math­ies.

Uni­ver­si­ty of Regi­na Fac­ul­ty Asso­ci­a­tion Faye Rafter Bursary

This bur­sary was estab­lished by the Uni­ver­si­ty of Regi­na Fac­ul­ty Asso­ci­a­tion to rec­og­nize the con­tri­bu­tions of Faye Rafter for her work as exec­u­tive direc­tor of the Asso­ci­a­tion dur­ing a time of growth and change in the organization. 

The bur­sary is award­ed annu­al­ly to a sin­gle par­ent on the basis of finan­cial need as well as aca­d­e­m­ic achieve­ment. The stu­dent must have com­plet­ed at least 30 hours of class work in any fac­ul­ty at the Uni­ver­si­ty of Regi­na, have a min­i­mum weight­ed per­cent­age aver­age of 75 per cent and be reg­is­tered in at least 12 cred­it hours in the fall semes­ter. Pref­er­ence will be giv­en to a stu­dent who demon­strates finan­cial need as cit­ed on the appli­ca­tion form. This award is val­ued at $1,500.

Uni­ver­si­ty of Regi­na Fac­ul­ty Asso­ci­a­tion Dr. Sarah Short­en Memo­r­i­al Bursary

This bur­sary was estab­lished by the Uni­ver­si­ty of Regi­na Fac­ul­ty Asso­ci­a­tion to sup­port the par­tic­i­pa­tion of women in the pro­fes­sion of engi­neer­ing and in sci­en­tif­ic fields. It is named to com­mem­o­rate the con­tri­bu­tion of Dr. Sarah Short­en to the sta­tus of aca­d­e­m­ic women in Cana­da and to her lega­cy of lead­er­ship in the Cana­di­an Asso­ci­a­tion of Uni­ver­si­ty Teach­ers. In a small way, it hon­ours the four­teen women who were trag­i­cal­ly mur­dered on Decem­ber 6, 1989 at École Poly­tech­nique in Montréal. 

The bur­sary is award­ed to a female stu­dent in the Fac­ul­ty of Engi­neer­ing, the Fac­ul­ty of Sci­ence, or the Fac­ul­ty of Edu­ca­tion (with a major in Sci­ence Edu­ca­tion) who has com­plet­ed a min­i­mum of 60 cred­it hours of under­grad­u­ate cours­es. Pref­er­ence will be giv­en to a female stu­dent in the Fac­ul­ty of Engi­neer­ing. The award is val­ued at $1,500, and will be award­ed by the Schol­ar­ship Com­mit­tee on the basis of aca­d­e­m­ic stand­ing and finan­cial need.
